Message from Scripture: 9/2/2020

Our message from Scripture today is 1 John 4:4;  Little children, you are from God and have overcome them, for he who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.

It would appear many times that error seems to follow on the heels of truth. One reason this is so, is because there is one who is trying to destroy us and bring us before God for judgment. Of course, this entity is the devil. He is an accuser and slanderer, trying to subvert our faith and rob us of eternal life. He is also our adversary, standing in opposition to our relationship with God.

One of the tools he uses to accomplish this is through false teachers, perverting the truth of the gospel, enticing people to follow error. They abandon God’s plan for what may look and sound appealing, but in the end, it only disappoints and causes one to forfeit salvation. John says those who deal in error have not succeeded in deceiving these Christians. They rejected their false concepts and gave them no opportunity to defraud them. How did they do this? John said greater is He who is in them, meaning God and His word, the truth of the gospel, than he who is in the world, the devil, who uses lies, subterfuge, and evil desires to accomplish his purpose.

We have that same source of victory available to us today. When we spend time in Scripture, learning its truths, practicing its precepts, we can discern truth over error, and make better choices in what to believe and how to live. Without God and His word, one can’t discern right from wrong, truth from error, the way of life from the way of death. So the psalmist rightly says, “I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you (Psa. 119:11). Spend time in the word today and every day, guarding it in your heart, applying it in your life, and you will have success over the devil. You will find God’s will for you is the best, today and eternally. God bless.

Robert
